US 24K Gold First Spouse Coins: Dates for Jefferson & Madison

Well, as you now know, the first two First Spouse coins for Martha Washington and Abigail Adams sold out in about 2 hours on the US Mint website.  The coins are now trading for between a 50-150% premium on eBay, and they haven’t even shipped yet.

So, the question you might be asking is:

What date is the US Mint releasing the next First Spouse coins?

I found the answers here, in this US Mint press release.   The dates are:

  • August 16th, Jefferson’s Liberty (he had no first spouse)
  • November 15th, Dolley Madison (not the baked goods)

Block off the dates.  I’m not sure at this point if the site will carry the coins at 9am EST or 12pm EST.  Hopefully, that will get announced ahead of time.

    I THINK IN THE COMMING YEARS AS THE BABY BOOMERS ARE ALL HITTING RETIREMENT, MANY OF THEM WITH MORE GOBS OF MONEY THAN EVER BEFORE SEEN, THEY WILL SPEND ON STUFF LIKE THIS. DEMAND AND PRICE WILL INCREASE ACCROSS THE BOARD. WITH THE VALUE OF THE DOLLAR CONTINUING TO DECLINE, I THINK THEY AND THEIR FAMILIES WILL PUT THEIR MONEY IN METAL.

    I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE MY ORDER GO THROUGH IN THE FIRST COUPLE OF MINUTES. I RECEIVED MY ORDER BY FED EX 2 DAYS AGO. I’M PLANNING TO HOLD THEM FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS UNOPENED TO WATCH HOW THINGS MOVE ON EBAY AND WITH THE VARIOUS PROMOTERS OUT THERE. I WANT TO SEE WHERE THE MARKET IS BEFORE SELLING THEM.

    I UNDERSTAND THE APPEAL WITH THESE FIRST TWO COINS AND THERE MAY BE SOME VALUE TO BE HAD WITH THE SECOND TWO IF THE MINTAGE IS THE SAME OR LOWER. I SAW A SIMILAR SITUATION WITH THE 2000W LIBERTY EAGLE WITH PROOFS’ NOW SELLING FOR 1000.00 AND UNCIRCULATED SELLING FOR 3000.00. THAT COINS MINTAGE WAS 10X THE MINTAGE OF THESE. THERE IS NO TELLING WERE THE PROMOTERS WILL SPOT THESE DOWN THE ROAD. I PLAN TO KEEP ONE OF EACH ALONG WITH ONE OF EACH OF THE FOLLOWING TWO FOR MYSELF TO PAIR WITH THE $1 PRESIDENT PROOF SET . THERE MIGHT BE A FEW OTHER FIRST SPOUSES THAT WILL BE POPULAR, BUT I DON’T SEE MUCH GOING FOR THE FOLLOWING RELEASES IN THIS SERIES. THAT’S A LOT OF MONEY TO INVEST OVER THE ENTIRE COLLECTION OF MOSTLEY UNKNOWN LADIES. I CAN THINK OF BETTER PLACES TO INVEST IT.

  4. Why? Because of lower mintage & rarity. If everyone buys proofs and there are very few uncirculated versions, the uncirculated versions will likely end up worth more.

    Why is a 1894 S dime worth so much? Because there are only 9 of them known in the world.

    Rarity means a lot.
